Bruschetta is an antipasto originating from Italy and consisting of grilled bread rubbed with garlic and topped with olive oil and salt. Variations may include toppings of tomato, vegetables, beans, cured meat, or cheese.
A popular dish is bruschetta with tomatoes; one recipe popular outside Italy involves basil, fresh tomato, garlic and onion or mozzarella. Directions Preheat oven to 400 degrees. In a medium bowl, combine tomatoes, onion, olive oil, oregano, basil and parsley. Place bread on a baking sheet and top with tomato mixture. Bake in preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes or until bottom of bread has browned. Allow to cool about 5 minutes before serving.
Prosciutto is an Italian dry-cured ham that is usually thinly sliced and served uncooked; this style is called prosciutto crudo in Italian and is distinguished from cooked ham, prosciutto cotto. Again toast your bread prior to topping with your favourite ham or prosciutto kolbassa, (Polish Kielbasa).
